Poose cookies in the mail!

Morning everyone! I'm happy to say my cookie exchange partner should be getting a fun package hopefully today! I'm partnered up with Out of the Rabbit Hole. She had requested healthy cookies, so I asked her to pick one from my site... and she picked...

Poose Cookies!!!

These are an all time favorite of John's. Invented over 3 years ago, and a batch made almost every week (although as he will lament as of late I've been baking too many other things and haven't been making him poose cookies) It's such a rough life he's got isn't it?? ;D Poor man has to eat a variety of healthy baked goods... it's just so unfair isn't it?

Anyway, I hope she likes these as much as we do!!

Poose Cookies
by steph chows

Whisk together in a medium bowl
1 cup whole wheat flour
1.5 cups oats (old fashion kind)
1 tsp baking soda
1 tsp cinnamon
dash of salt

In a large bowl beat together
1 package = ( 2, 3.5 once containers) of gerber prunes and apples baby food
3/4 cup unsweetened apple sauce
1/2 cup organic zero, or splenda granulated (or use 1/2 cup white sugar)
2 Tbs brown sugar
2 eggs (beat in one at a time)
1 tsp vanilla

Slowly add dry to wet, then add in
1 cup chocolate chips

Scoop large tablespoon mounds onto a baking mat (flatten them down a bit with your finger tips) and bake at 350 for 17-20 minutes. Serve warm, or for a John favorite, freeze and eat them ice cold (yup he's a weird one isn't he).

chow!!

ice cold!!!
they sound great, i like that there isn't any butter.

Great cookie recipe, delicious and nutritious!

Why did you name them "poose" cookies?

Sarah Glova said...

I agree-- let's hear about the name!

i just signed up for my first mail exchange and I'm SO excited! maybe my person will request healthy cookies and I can make them yours!

stephchows said...

ahh yes the name... it's a nickname of mine... which originated in the form of Cookiepuss (the lovable carvel ice cream cake) which got shortened/morphed to just poose :)

Yum! I'm with you John, frozen cookies are good! Especially the chewy ones :)

I may get ambitious and bake a pie this weekend. I know that doesn't sound all that ambitious, but I've never made a homemade crust before, so it is a big step for me!

Such yummy and nutritious cookies, I would love those!

What's not to love? They look delicious! I'm getting a kick out the name ... and the explanation thereof ... as well!

I second the Diva - what's not to love? They sound fabulous... I'm always up for chocolate and cinnamon.

Healthy cookies? Yum! Yum! Yum!

Healthy cookies!? This recipe may turn into a favorite around here, considering we really love our cookies (butter and all). Since you include chocolate chips, they have a nice balance between healthy and decadent. (I know, I know, chocolate can be healthy, too...antioxidants and whatnot.) Thanks for sharing the recipe!

Looks like are timing is dead-on. You should be getting your cookies today. Read my post before trying them...I think they were more of an experiment than a success :(
But its all in the name of getting to the perfect healthy cookie.

No offense but Splenda is not considered healthy so I don't feel your cookie has an appropriate name. Maybe try honey or something natural.

stephchows said...

lucymom- no offense taken at all. I know some people will not use splenda, which is why I always put conversions to use other things, and have been using honey and other natural sweeteners in more of my recent recipes. You can read about my thoughts on splenda here: http://stephchows.blogspot.com/2008/11/splenda-my-thoughts-and-yours.html

My toes have been exchanged for 10 little icicles and actually my fingers too. It has warmed up a bit but I dont feel anywarmer. I read what you wrote about your nonstylish self walking around int he winter. That is so me! Half the time I dont match. But I am warm.

Anyway these cookies look absolutely delcious.

Okay I think I rambled enough.

I made these tonight with White Whole Wheat flour and they were really good. My only complaint is that the batter is slightly more difficult to work with than normal cookie dough...might bake nicely into muffins as well!

Thanks for the great recipe!

I just made these... they are quite good! I didn't have any baby food so I pureed some fresh dried prunes and cooked apples with a little bit of water as a substitute.  I must have added too much though (about 1/2 cup plus 1 tbsp of puree) because they were a little wet.  However, I added a few more tbsp of flour and baked them for only 14 mins.  They turned out quite moist and delicious.  I am more of a cinnamon raisin lover so I think next time I would use raisins rather than chocolate chips to make an oatmeal raisin cookie.  Thanks for the recipe!

AJoy said...

Forgot to mention that the puree amount was for a half recipe, not a full one.

Great job subbing in with ingredients you had on hand! I LOVE oatmeal raisin cookies but my husband isn't a fan (stinker) but I'll have to make a batch of these for myself using raisins!! Thanks for commenting!

Oh my - these are amazing cold from the freezer! I shoved them in there so as not to be tempted but it made them even more delicious! hah!

That's John's favorite way to eat them! Aren't they so good that way!! :)

How did I miss these before?  I won't again; I'm making these for Hubs and myself!  How about chocolate chips AND raisins?  I'm drooling......

Hope you like them! And try putting them in the freezer, they are so tasty that way too!

You still have the Coco chip cookies in the wooden box? I used to sent these to all my clients before retiring 4 years ago
