Yes yes by now you all know about my lustful relationship with bread. I can't help it! I mean how do you say no to a hot yeastfullydelicious crusty hunk of bread? You don't... you just don't. You say thank you and savor every hot wonderful bite.
Have you heard about the book Artisan Bread in 5 minutes a day? They also have a blog. I took it out from the library the other day (I'm a library ho, it's true, I took out 7 cookbooks the other day... don't hate on me... it's called resourceful) Anyway, the book is awesome! I was a little hesitant, ingredient: flour, water, salt, yeast. It's no kneed. Dump it all together, toss to incorporate, let it rise, then chuck it in the fridge for up to 2 weeks. You do still have to let the dough rise before it goes into the oven (unless you are making pitas) and they have all different ways of shaping and adding stuff to it. (get the recipe on their blog here.)
I made the straight up, grab out hunk of dough, shape it, let it rest 40 minutes, slash it a couple times, toss it on a preheated baking stone, toss in some water to steam it, DONE. Thirty minutes later, this beautiful crusty beauty came out of the oven... and OH how I enjoyed it. Perfect crust, amazingly tended guts... DELICIOUSLY GLORIOUS!
Yeah... I ate the whole little loaf... half with a nice big bowl of soup (come back tomorrow to see what kind) and then I ate the other half straight up plain. Now if you don't mind, I'm going to go to a spinning class to work off said glorious bread :D
Dear Steph -
ReplyDeleteYou talk about the bread like you wanna marry it...you cant silly your already engaged!!! Congrats!!! :) Such wonderful news! :)
PS - I will date bread. It's been my long time lover since it created mr. bagel :)
Why must you taunt me so! *puts down pathetic excuse for a sandwich*
ReplyDeletewill definitely be trying this.
Oh, and...CONGRATS!!
I LOVE bread! I wish I could reach through the screen and get some of this now!
ReplyDeleteMmm bread. Still need to try the Artisan 5 min. version. Yours looks irresistible!
ReplyDeleteThe bread looks great. (what bread doesn't look good?)
ReplyDeleteAnd libraries are totally the best thing ever! I don't know what I'd do without a library. And if I HAD to choose between bread and the library, I have no idea which one would go...
That book has totally changed my life. I'm hooked on home baked bread. Watch out for the whole wheat sandwich bread recipe though. The original recipe comes out very dense. I'm going to try it next time with vital wheat gluten.[
ReplyDeleteI'm such a Bread Ho and I love this book and all their recipes.
ReplyDeleteI've made this bread twice and absolutely love it. Next time I make it I am going to make bread bowls out of them.
ReplyDeleteI couldn't wait for them to cool, just slathered on the butter. And, um, maybe some Tabasco!
Gorgeous bread! I'm completely addicted to this book and method. It has endless possibilities!
ReplyDeleteYour bread is beautiful! Really, there's nothing like homemade bread.
ReplyDeleteWOW looks like I'm not the only bread lover out there :D And library lover! hehe
ReplyDeleteAnd Beryl thank you SO MUCH for the advice, I was planning on making that next! But now I know better :)
Oh, such a gorgeous loaf! I'm sure I wouldn't be able to resist such a temptation either, homemade bread is the best.
ReplyDeleteYou are the worst! I made the bread tonight to go with my chow, and it was so, so good. How am I going to stop eating this?
ReplyDeleteHannah and Kendra, it's true this bread IS too tempting! That's why I always make a small loaf, because I KNOW I will finish it off no matter how big it is :)
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing this with me, it looks great! I am sooo in love with homemade bread now!
