B is for Broccoli

Do you hate or love veggies? I'm a picky veggie eater, they have to be done right or I wont eat them. John just hates them, (yeah that's right "mr I eat healthy" doesn't like veggies) But I make him eat them anyway... so sweet of me right?

I'm always looking for quick and easy side dishes to add along with dinner. I found this one from Cooking Light and figured I'd give it a go! Only change I made was to add some sesame seeds into the mix.

The flavors weren't as intense as I thought they would be... 3 cloves of garlic and red pepper flakes?? I think steaming them at the end somehow lessened the intensity. Next time I'll add even more garlic and pepper flakes :)

  2. Broccoli is well loved in our house. It is my daughters favourite vegetable. When she was little she called it 'trees'.

  3. I love vegetables but my husband (another John!) will only eat green beans and canned spinach. Sigh.
I clicked on the Cooking Light link and found this - "Asparagus Ribbons with Lemon and Goat Cheese" It looks amazing! I need to try that and the broccoli asap

  5. Broccoli is my favorite veg, but I'm a picky veg eater. The hubby on the other hand is an equal opportunity veggie lover.

  6. I used to hate veggies as a kid. I pretty much only ate carrots. Now? Love em! B is also for brussel sprouts. Yum!

  8. I love vegetables! *proud* It was the word 'broccoli' in your blog title that made me click through, haha.

I like my broccoli to have a bit of crunch, so I stir fry them in garlic and oyster sauce, mm. I find that steaming them makes it too soggy.

  9. But broccoli is wonderful! I'm crazy for veggies in general though. My favorite preparation for just about everything is roasting- It concentrates the flavors, rather than washing them away as steaming tends to.

  11. He just needs to learn the veggies he likes! I have always been rabidly anti-vegetables, until I learned that it was just that I'd always had them cooked terribly. It took me forever to find out I liked Brussels sprouts, for instance, because I'd always had them boiled to a yellow-green. Same with broccoli. Unfortunately, my favorite way to eat broccoli is steamed with a pat of butter and some salt on top, which isn't really healthy, heh.

  13. I can always get behind more garlic and red pepper flakes!! :)

As far as veggies go, we're veg lovers at our house. And broccoli is a favorite, especially roasted. The crispier, the better!

  15. I love veggies! But broccoli is one of my least favorites, depending on how it's prepared. My Mom makes garlic broccoli all the time - she probably uses twice as much garlic - and she doesn't steam them - just sautes.

  16. I love broccoli-it is one of my favorite vegetables. I have recently been putting it in a lot of stir-fry dishes, and it sounds absolutely delicious prepared this way. Then again, garlic makes everything better ;)
