Smore please

Ok if you don't like smores... I don't know what to tell you. I mean even my sweet fiance who doesn't like to eat sugar can't say no to them! Even though we weren't tent camping, we still had a nice outdoor area complete with a fire pit! Smores HAD to be made! I mean it's a requirement in my book if you are camping :)

The most important part of marshmallow roasting is having some good red coals to brown your marshmallows over. It you just stick them in the flames they will just set on fire, or brown but not get all droopy and gooey inside!

I like to cook my marshmallows until they are so gooey they are desperately holding onto the stick, unabashedly threatening to dive into the flames at any moment! How do you like to cook yours??

Now that is one deflated marshmallow! Perfect if you ask me :) When making smores you also have to be prepared! I like to line up a bunch of graham crackers with chocolate all ready to go, assembly line style!

Want to know another secret I learned about smores while on vacation? If it rains one night and gets all of your firewood wet... you can totally make them in the microwave (this applies to "camping" not real camping though... LOL... The whole cooking part is not the same but pretty darn amusing. Especially when a certain someone sneaks out the camera while you are trying to enjoy your hot out of the microwave smore!

Can't a girl enjoy her microwaved smores in peace??

Place your graham crackers down and top with chocolate and two marshmallows. Microwave for about 30 seconds (keep an eye on them so they don't set on fire). They will get rather large and then deflate when you open the door. YUM!

I know, I know, the fire roasted are OBVIOUSLY better... but hey... tough times call for tough measures!

And after further ado... here are some more fun "camping" pictures :D

I have this tripod that you can wrap around a tree branch or pretty much anything, makes taking pictures of yourself much easier!

Along with this frog, we also saw a snake... and no I didn't pick it up and chase John with it... and yes I did try to do that to him before we were dating HAHAHA... it really is a miracle he stuck around ;)

He's happy because we finally made it to the top! That was a long ALL uphill rocky climb

I was threatening to jump off the side of the mountain... it looked more convincing from my angle :)

Such fun pictures!!! And yes, I do LOVE LOVE LOVE smores!!! When I Was little I learned a little trick- you can toast a marshmallow at home during the summer when the fireplace is dead and there is no campfire (or parents around). Place marshmallow on the end of a fork, toast over a heated up burner on the stove!! :) I still do this today, my hubbs thinks I am crazy :)

Smores and me are like peanut butter and jelly! They just go hand in hand. Great pictures. Looks like such a fun trip.

Whether they're made over a camp fire or in the microwave, s'mores are just the best! :)

Great shots, it looks like such a fun adventure.

I think for reasons more than taste, smores just bring me to my happy place. Or maybe it's more that they remind me of childhood and carefree times.

Great vacation photos Steph.

What great photos, Steph! You look amazing and you both have such great smiles. :)

As for the marshmallows, I like mine golden brown and slightly crisp. Almost well-done. Yum!

Lastly, I'm pretty charmed by that frog, he's a cute one.

Next time you make a s'more, try adding a bit of peanut butter to the graham cracker first - it's heavenly.

Jennifer- love it! and I love the fact that you still do it :D

SunshineMeg- so true! and a good point about the PB made by pam below!

Hannah- so true! no camping required :) thanks!

Mags- it's so true, just the thought makes me think of being a little kid :)

Diva- You are too sweet! Thank you! Marshmallows your way sound divine!

Pam- I actually dipped some of the chocolate into a jar of cashew/almond butter we brought with us, SO GOOD!! I should have thought to add it to the smores!

It goes without saying that neither one of us will refuse a s'more. Anyway it comes, it's good. It's tasty to add a tiny bit of peanut butter too. :)

I love s'mores! Soooo good. Have you ever tried a banana boat? Those are really, really good too.

ha, i've never tried to catch a photo of smores... when i was a kid, i would cook mine until they literally caught on fire. those were the good old days.

The gorilla tripod? I just got back from Chicago and they sold them in practically every store - screaming for me to buy one, glad to hear they work so well! Your smore looks perfect- exactly the right toastedness how I like mine:)

I like my marshmallows cooked just as much as you do! I always loved microwaving marshmallows when I was little because they grow in the microwave.

Would you believe that I actually have never had a s'more! I really have to try it very soon.

Duo Dishes- yum!

Jeanne- a banana boat??? ok I need to go look up what that is!

Justin- ahhh you are one of those charred marshmallow people! handy to have around when I accidentally set one on fire :)

Healthy Tasty Chow- I think that is what it's called! I got mine at target for $12 or something though... works great!

Megan- woohoo I'm not the only one!

5 Star Foodie- NO WAY!!! OK I have homework for you... go make one this weekend :D

I've never had a smore before! Perhaps the UK doesn't know what it's missing! They look yummy though! x

I love the last picture - so beautiful! But how close to the edge were you? I felt a moment of fear for you! I like my marshmallows just gently toasted a perfect light brown!

stephchows said...

Reeni- no worries I wasn't "that" close to the edge :) safety first! It looks like it's a sharp drop off but it actually was a gradual one for another 20 feet or so before the big drop :)

I used to agree with another poster about adding peanut butter to the s'more. But then we just streamlined the whole process and use peanut butter cups. YUM!!!!

Katrina - that is the best idea ever!!! Years ago I made "smrownies" haha basically use brownies as your graham crackers :D soo good

I like making mine the way you do too except sometimes I like to throw it into the flames for some extra colour (black!) Not crazy about eating the black stuff, but it just looks so cool! Many times I just end up losing it though because it's already barely hanging onto the stick.

And you so looked like you were gonna jump off the cliff! ;)
