Tuna Melt
When John and I started dating he wanted to show me that he was able to cook. The first thing he cooked for me was a tuna melt... I must admit, I really really don't like tuna melts... but you all know how you pretend to like things when you are first in love... and he was so sweet to cook for me... so I put on my biggest smile and told him I loved it, and ate every last bit of it!
At some point later when I felt more comfortable with him... the truth came out!!! We had a good laugh, but from then on when he feels like a tuna melt, he goes solo with it :)
John's Hummus Tuna Melt
Spray two slices of whole wheat bread with I can't believe it's not butter spray, set aside
Mix together:
Can of tuna drained
2 Tbs hummus (chili pepper is a favorite)
few glugs red hot
Place a sice of bread butter side down in a pan and top with tuna mixture. Add a slice of cheese of your choice then the other side of bread butter side up. Grill over low heat until browned, flip and brown other side.

What food have you pretended to like in the name of love :D
12 chews:
I love the addition of the hummus!
I pretended to love my mother-in-law's candied red hot baked apples back when hubby and I were dating and I swear she made them every time I came to dinner...LOL
Reminds me when my significant other made me French onion soup. I now love French onion soup. But at the time the taste of slimy onions and soggy bread did a number on my gag reflex. In the end I had to feign fullness to get out of it... ;)
The first time my mother gave me a box of chocolate covered cherries, I pretended to like them. I now get them for Christmas and my birthday. Blah. My husband will eat them but only the Cella's brand.
Mixing tuna with hummus is genius! I use greek yogurt but never thought to use hummus. Thanks!
mmmm i love a good tuna melt. The chef at Mise en place on South ave makes a great one with ciabatta bread and cheddar. yummo!
Mags- ahhh that fine line of letting people know what you like and don't... played wrong and you get what you hate every year! :D
Calantha- well at least you like it now!! faking full always works :)
MaryBe- awww!! I have to say I love chocolate covered cherries! I'd help you eat them :) John has been using hummus in his tuna forever! It's a john original lol
Wendy- I still haven't been there yet!!! Lets meet for lunch one day deal?? I haven't seen you in ages!!
I love tuna melts! I always like to add a slice of tomato to mine... and sometimes bacon. I've never mixed tuna with hummus, but that sounds awesome.
My boyfriend has never attempted to cook for me... he gets by telling people -- she cooks, so why should I? Ha ha. Which is totally fine with me since I love it so much!
There's not much I don't like but if I'm confronted with something I don't like... I usually say... I don't really like [insert rare unliked food such as scallops or swiss chard here], but I'll give it a try. I can't think of anything I've pretended to like...
Megan- That's my normal way about food I'm not a huge fan of... but it was just so sweet of him I couldn't tell him I didn't like it :D Now however, I'll tell him :) But I'll still always give it a try.
Haha, cute story! I do love the hummus + tuna combo, though :)
ahh i LOVE hummus and tuna!! go john!
Okay, I needed to see this post! I have had a can of tuna to eat for a while and want a sandwich but the only way I know of is with miracle whip but I don't buy that anymore! I do have hummus but never thought of that! I'll definitely give it a try!
thanks!
