500 and wedding chow
OK I think this is the 500th post now... woohoo! Happy 500th little blog!! Thank you everyone for all your kind words yesterday! You all rock!!
So this past weekend was kinda crazy. I had my first wedding dress fitting (still love it!) ate a ton of great chow at the wedding tasting... and bought a house!!! A HOUSE???!!! John and I have been looking and we finally found something and pounced on it! The inspection is saturday so everyone say a little prayer or send good vibes our way that all goes well! Once that's done it's going to be a race to close by March 12th!!! INSANE!!!
OK back to wedding chow, the third most important aspect of getting married! 1st is the whole you know actually getting married part. 2nd is photography... 3rd is food!
As you can see I just had a little point and shoot and no flash... so not the best images but hey just wait for the professionals on the big day!
Some of the highlights:
Favorite salad option: Crisp Romaine with mandarin oranges cran-raisins, toasted walnuts, and honey lemon poppy dressing. We ALL loved it!!
Favorite Pasta Dish:
No contest it was the sweet potato pecan ravioli with caramalized leeks and onions A+
Favorite Fish Dish:
Herbed talapia... I know it's a bottom feeder and at the bottom of the fancy fish food chain.. but you know what?? It was so amazing I couldn't get over it. Totally a surprise.
Favorite Chicken Dish:
Chicken Marsals with button mushrooms
Favorite carving station pick:
Carved beef tenderloin with burgundy demi glaze
Do I have you drooling yet?
There were also three bakeries there with cakes.
I have to say... wedding cakes always look nice... but I'm never a huge fan of the flavor. I can't stand butter cream... just can't do it... and the cake is almost always dry from being frozen before decorating... these are the reasons I don't want a wedding cake. I think just a bunch of different small bakery cakes would be perfect! Nothing fancy decorated just something tasty :)
So if my favorites listed above were your choice on your invitation, what would you order??

26 chews:
Congrats on buying your house!!! I would choose the chicken marsala - that is one of my favorite dishes!
That's so awesome that you bought a house! Congrats!! I'd definitely get the salad, the beef, and most definitely that pasta dish. That sounds beyond delicious.
A bunch of small cakes also sounds like a great idea... then you can have a variety of flavors!
I feel exactly the same about wedding cakes. We had different muffins and cupcakes at our wedding and everyone loved them :) Plus they can be set up on this layered cake-holder as well and decorated with real flowers so it looks just as effective.
Congrats on the house!
And on the 500 posts, wow, I'm only half-way :D
Wow, congrats on the house and on the 500th post! You must be so excited. :)
Congratulations on the house! How exciting!
I think I'd choose the tilapia. I LOVE fish!
Our wedding cake was amazing. The flavors were incredible but the design very simple. We had a smaller cake because we also had another dessert bar with cookies and brownies and then had an ice cream sundae bar closer to the end of the night (we love ice cream and it was from a local shop we all love)!
CONGRATS on the house!!! How exciting Steph!!
I actually loved my wedding cake. 4 tier, each a different kind. But I do agree some arent so good!
I would deffff choose beef tenderloin; that just sounds so good!
Wow, so much to congratulate you for, Steph! HUGE congrats on the 500th post and especially on your new house! How wonderful! I'm sending positive inspection vibes your way, pronto!
And the food ... it all sounds magnificent. Personally, I'll all over that ravioli and the chicken. But I'm a big chicken freak. LOL
I agree about the wedding cakes - they usually look great and taste terrible. I don't agree on the buttercream though ... how can you not like buttercream?!?
I actually enjoyed my wedding cake - it was simple, elegant and surprisingly moist and delicious. Must have been a fluke! LOL
Love your idea of the small cakes. Its your wedding, you should have exactly what you want. :)
Congrats on the 500th post and your new home! So exciting right??
All the entrees sound amazing! I know my husband would order the beef(and let me sneak a few bites) so I would probably get the pasta. It would be a difficult choice!
I'm with ya. Buttercream makes me gag. Ever since I made my bro's wedding cake I haven't been able to even look at the stuff without, well, wanting to gag. I think your smaller cake idea sounds great!
And all the food sounds amazing.
GL with all the house stuff. prayers and vibes will be coming your way on Saturday!
I'd just be a big old pig and order one of everything...lol
Congrats on buying a house. That's a huge deal, isn't it?
If gluten weren't an issue I'd pick the ravioli.
I agree about the wedding cake thing. Several little cakes is a great idea. I also like the idea of cupcakes in various flavors.
congrats on the house steph!
i love the no cake- cake idea.. how about cupcakes? mini cakes a sweet idea too, and i definetly agree wiht the butter cream stuff..yuckk.. as for the vegetarian in me, i like the raviolis, the salads (im already drooling).. i cant say much about the non veg stuff though.. so id agree with whatever you and your fiance picked hehe.. good luck though, glad to see things are coming together so well!
Wow, so many exciting things happening! Congrats on the house and the 500 posts! I would totally go for the tenderloin on the menu :)
We are getting our cake from Cheesy Eddies - it's going to be a carrot cake, but my cousin got hers there as a cheese cake. SO GOOD! I definitely recommend checking them out.
Congrats on the house!
Congrats on your new house!!! Did I see you last Saturday in the Pittsford village, perhaps going to the house showing?
I like your idea of the wedding cake. Taste, taste and taste!
I believe the chicken masala, pasta and salad can accommodate everyone's preference: meat eaters, vegetarians, non seafood eaters, and religious eaters.
Where is your wedding? Should I crash it?:-))))
Congrats on your new house! I'm so happy for you both! And your 500th post! I'd go for the salad, ravioli, and fish. I love your idea of a bunch of small cakes. Everyone can have their favorite.
Omg I don't think I've even had the chance to say CONGRATULATIONS ON YOUR ENGAGEMENT yet... Bad CB Bad! And your new house too! I aint gonna lie. Owning a home is the best feeling. I'm still unpacking 2 months later but it's so worth it. As for wedding food: I'm a carboholic so I say pasta but I know that my meat eater Hubs would probably choose chicken. Either way no one will remember the food. But everyone remembers if your best man got so drunk that he wrestled another male guest to the ground to catch the garter. That may or may not have happened at my wedding ;)
I feel the same way about wedding cakes. I've never had a "great" wedding cake other that at my own wedding. he he But the cake looks pretty.
There are so many congratulations to be given to you....First, congratulations on buying a new home-so exciting!!! My fingers are crossed that everything goes right. Second, congratulations on your 500th post! Wow! Last but not least... Congrats on the opportunity to taste all that great wedding food in preparation for your big day. Awesome.
congrats on the new home! I know... doesn't it totally suck that all the pretty things don't always taste as good as they look?
okay sweet potato pecan ravioli with caramalized leeks and onions sound AMAZING!!!!!! CONGRATS on the house and the food and the 500th post-- you're on top of the world!!
