Jam Exchange

OK everyone it's the first annual steph chows jam exchange!!!!

It seems like a good number of you would be interested in a jam exchange, which let me tell you, makes me VERY excited!!!! So lets get this bad boy rolling already! Here are the "rules"
  1. You do NOT need to have a blog to participate! Everyone is welcome to join in!
  2. You must be willing to mail 2 jars of any kind of jam your little heart desires to your given person.
  3. You must sign up with me so I can make sure to pair you with someone! Email me at stephchows (at) gmail (dot) com with the following:
    Your name and address
Blog URL if you have one (see rule 1... you DO NOT need one)
If you would be ok with mailing internationally or if you want to stick domestic (USA) (totally ok either way you choose) I know we have a few peeps from Canada who are in to do this... I checked with the post office here and they said we can ship jam to our Canadian neighbors! I know we have a bunch of AUS readers too... and the post office says no issues with shipping jam to you either! All my other international friends... email me and I'll check and see if it's allowed to your country or not :) As for your country to here or somewhere else... I'm not sure about that one...
I figure if you agree to ship international, I'll pair someone international to send back to you so it's a fair trade. (I know the USPS has flat rate international boxes... probably the cheepest way).
  4. If you would like your jam included in the final roundup email me a picture of it and a link to a blog entry if you have one up, or just email me to let me know what you sent/received.

Deadline to send me your info: July 19th
I will contact you with your jam partner by July 26th
You have until August 11th to mail said jam to said person (why the 11th... because it's my birthday that's why LOL) You can mail as early as you like though, so if you have your jam ready to go on the 26th when I email you... go for it and mail it! Or if you are a procrastinator... wait till the 11th to mail it... either way works :) Just please make sure to mail it so no one is left out!

What's that? You've never made jam before? Well then this is a darn good excuse to learn right? Read more about my adventures in jammin' here.

OH and feel free to grab the image above and blog about the exchange to get the word out there and more peeps involved :) Or you can tweet about it... I know, I don't tweet, it scares me... but you can all do it :)

So exciting!! Though kind of scary that I'm sending my first batch of jam to a stranger ;

I hope it turns out well!

And tweeting is weird, I have one, I just set up my foodbuzz to update my twitter when I update there.

I am so incredibly excited about doing this jam exchange. I've already got a list of jam flavors I'd like to try to make, now I just need to narrow it down to two. And you totally know I'm going to blog about it!

Steph, this is such a fun idea! I'm going to have to be a Jam Voyeur though, since I'm not a jam maker myself. I'll happily watch though and wait for a cookie or muffin exchange! LOL

Diana- Can't wait to hear from you!! It's going to rock!

Diva- no worries my dear I can understand that one :) And good call on the cookie exchange! I'll set that one up after this is all done :) woo wooo!

April- Yeahhh!!! My original first exchange buddy. Glad you are going to join in!!

What a fun idea! I tweeted it for you.

so excited for this! my first jam attempt is tonight, wish me luck!

Hi! I'm too scared to make jam and not boil the jars closed correctly or something and get someone sick, but this sounds like fun. Maybe you can sponser a cookie exchange the next time:) And I tweet but am not a good tweeter in the least. I get why you don't want to!

Aww I'd love to do this but it might be hard to do as I'm moving and live overseas. Great idea though Steph! :)

jam exchange? awesome idea.

stephchows said...

Reeni- thanks for the tweet!

Jen- Good luck!! let us know how it went!

Ann- haha no need to be scared it really is super easy, and you can tell if it didn't seal right wicked easy. Just tap the top and if it bubbles up and down that means that it didn't vacuum right. No worries though stick it in the fridge and it's still good for you to eat :)

Lorraine- we've got people who are all in for international so if you want to you are totally welcome to join in!

Pearl- you should give it a try :)

i'm in! i'm will to mail wherever, just let me know:) such a great idea.

Hi, thanks for visiting my blog!
I'd love to join your jam exchange, but I see that you are in the US, and now I'm living in Italy, so I'm afraid I won't be able to do that.
Even if it wasn't so expensive, I think there are some burocratic/sanitary issues in sending food to and from US and Italy.

I'll follow your blog, so when I come back I'll be checking similar initiatives!

Thanks again,
Anna

Thanks for the invite, Steph, and for visiting my blog. I'm going to have to sit this one out, but I will happily observe from the sidelines!

Thank you for inviting me to participate. Unfortunately these next few weeks are very busy. But if you do anything like this again will you keep me in the loop?

stephchows said...

Rebecca- send me an email and I'll add you to the list!

KeakAkueb- bummer! I didn't realize there were issues with shipping to Italy.

Ninette- next time!

Alice- Sure thing! Hopefully you'll be able to join in next time :)

This is such a wonderful idea! I really wish I could participate but my local postal service (in Bombay) is very finicky about letting me send glass jars. :(

The Purple Foodie- bummer! I'm sure you would have had some great jam! Who knew it was so hard to have this exchange be international :( Maybe an international cookie exchange will go over better :) No glass that way!

Thanks so much for inviting me to the jam exchange! This is the kind of thing I love, but I'm in Europe before the deadline, so I can't participate. Please let me know next time though! I would love some more jam!

I'm going to have to think about this for a day or two. I'm moving this weekend and will be on a very limited budget - I really WANT to participate but am not sure if I can. It's an awesome idea, though!

Steph,
Thanks for the invite. I'm hesitant about agreeing to this, but what the heck? Sure, count me in. I just hope I can make something worthy for the exchange.

Steph, thanks for the invite. Unfortunately the swap falls right into my vacation, so I won't be able to take part. Great idea though and I'm sure you'll get loads of great swaps happening.

I just saw this, and I have several of the most delicious jams/butters/preserves (textured jams, I guess you'd call them) I'd love to swap. Am I too late?

Should add that my jams are all quite low sugar--1/3-1/2 cup sugar per cup of fruit.

(My just-made wild strawberry-rhubarb has just 1 1/2 cups sugar to 8 cups fruit & I think is might be the best ever.).

They are all vacuum processed for 10 minutes and will keep in a cool dark place for a good year, but once opened should be refrigerated and eaten w/in 2-3 weeks for best flavor.)

Peach/orange/strawberry "marmalade" is the other I've made this summer. Tonight I have Bing Cherry preserves setting overnight in lemon juice & sugar to can tomorrow. They'll be ready to mail by the August 11 deadline.

(Sorry if I've told you more than you really wanted to know, but I'm hoping someone has requested low-sugar jams. The only reason I started making jam at all is because all the ones I can buy are so sweet that one must look at the jar label to tell what kind of fruit it is.)

Best regards to you. Great idea. If I'm too late this year, I hope you'll repeat it next year.

Hi Hilda! Your blogger profile is locked so I can't see your email so hopefully you check back here. I just sent out the paired up list to everyone yesterday but send me an email with your address to stephchows at gmail.com and I'll get you fitted in there! Everything you've made sounds delicious :) Did you use any pectin in your strawberry rhubarb jam?? I'm amazed at how low the sugar is that's great!! Can't wait to hear from you!

I am so bummed that I missed this chance! I am really into jam making this year, and would have LOVED to participate.

if it isn't too late my email is spillingbuckets at gmail and I'll send you my other info.

Do you plan on doing this next year?

Steph,

I sent it today!! So sorry I was late!! I wanted to do something special for this and actually made my own pectin and then the jam. Took twice as long, but I had so much fun! Thanks so much for hosting this exchange and I can not wait for next years!!!

This is such a wonderful idea! I really wish I could participate but my local postal service (in Bombay) is very finicky about letting me send glass jars. :(
