Guidas

When I moved to upstate NY I never thought I'd have to worry about finding good pizza... I mean come on I'm still in NY... and NYC is like the land of pizza! Surely there is good pizza upstate... yeahhhh I learned pretty quick that a lot of pizza places up here like to use sweet sauce. No joke, it tastes like there is a jar of sugar in it!! NASTY MUCH??

There is however a place I hold near and dear to my heart up here. Guidas Pizza. It's the closest NYC style that I've found up here (although I recently read about another place where a guy from Brooklyn just opened so I need to go check it out!). Guidas is true to NYC style where you can walk in and just order a slice to go or stay (love that). Plus it totally helps with the portion control... you give me a large pizza and I'm gonna chow most of it without blinking. See this is why ordering a slice = moderation = a good thing.

Although a slice is rather large... yes this is 1 slice, I know it's cut in half... but it's 1 :D

Mmmmm what's your favorite style pizza? Thin crust, thick and chewy? And what are your toppings of choice?

I haven't actually ordered pizza out in years, but I'm still a New Yorker at heart- Thin crust all the way! I just love to pile on roasted veggies when I make it at home, no cheese or cheese-substitute for me, thanks.

Oh Steph why do you show me these pictures so early. I suddenly have a craving for pizza before 9am!

I'm from the Chicago area and we have awesome pizza here also! Our favorite is a place called Arnoldo's. Small local place- those are always the best! My FAV toppings are black olives and mushrooms. Mmmmmmmmm... delish!

That slice looks mighty good, Steph! I'm with you ... no sweet sauce!

I must confess that I'm a pizza snob ... I grew up in the New Haven, CT area - home of true thin crust pizza - and I can't really eat it anywhere else. The one place here in the city that I like is the original Patsy's up on 117th street. They have an ancient oven and it makes the crust so tasty!

Personally, I'm a purist, I like mozz and that's it. If I'm making pizza at home, I will do other toppings like mushrooms, or peppers, etc. But if I'm in New Haven, I want plain mozz ... preferably from Modern Apizza.

Omg I am constantly on the lookout for NYC style pizza. I'm in California so it's not easy but I've found some that are not too shabby. That one looks so good!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY once again!! :-) I'm so excited for you about all the beautiful birthday goodies you received in the mail - can't wait to hear about all the glorious recipes I know you'll concoct with them! :-)

Mmmm, you have me dreaming about pizza now... :-) I know exactly what you mean about the sweet sauce, and I think it tastes so strange! Not yummy at all... I do love non-sweet-sauce pizza, though... :-) My two favorite pizza topping combos are mushrooms and hot peppers (strange sounding combo, I know, but totally yum :-), and black olives, feta cheese, and red onions! YAY pizza! :-) (At home, I try to be good and fix us whole wheat crust pizzas with lots of veggies and just a little sprinkling of Parmesan cheese... :-)

Never exposed to NYC pizza, but definitely, I will check this place out. Deep dish is my favorite in the States so far after living in Chicago for some time. The thin crust Italian used to be my favorite when I lived in Europe.
In ROC, Pontillos is my fav, especially the white sauce one. Don't you like it?

Lou Malnatti's in Chicago, hands down. The best deep dish pizza ever. The crust is very buttery and flakey. Vegetables are super fresh. Mmmmmmmmm!

Thin crust. Definitely thin crust. I love almost anything on a pizza. But there's this pesto pizza I very very fond of. Mmm.

Thin crust!

Like Diva on a Diet, I'm New Haven spoiled too. Pizza there is amazing. Anywhere else... eh. Boston does alright for pizza places, but I miss New Haven.

My topping choices change all the time. Last night I had bacon, scallions, gorgonzola, and roasted tomatoes. Such a tasty combo!

Hannah- gotta love the thin! MMMM and loads of veggies! Count me in!

Sunshinemeg- sorry girl :D

Danielle- I can't do the deep dish all the time (oh the belly oil pains) but every so often it's SO GOOD!

Diva on a Diet and Megan- Hmmm new haven for pizza?? Well if you both say so... I need to go get some!

Foodnfit- oh man! See this is why moving sucks!

Asta Libris- thanks! John would totally agree with you on the mushrooms and hot peppers!

ChineseKite- It's been awhile since I had pontillos, I'll have to give it a fair try again.

HappyTummy- Note taken! Next time I'm in chicago I'm going!

Jeanne- mmmmm pesto pizza mmmmmm

Upon first read, we thought you were using the feminine form of 'guidos'! We learn something new every day. Totally miss East coast/NY pizza, although Chicago is another fave.

You can't beat a great pizza! I love mine with thin crust and lots of sauce. And I have to say my favorite topping is always ham and pineapple. But I'll eat just about anything on a pizza!

Steph, thank you so much for your comment about the nut and seed rolls! I definitely think they would be good with an increase in whole wheat flour and a decrease in white flour - I would like to try the same thing myself, actually. I would up using more white flour than I usually would just because I was worried that all the bran and seeds I was dumping in the dough with abandon would make the rolls too heavy, but they weren't a a bit heavy, so I think some more whole wheat flour is definitely in order! :-) If you give it a whirl, please do let me know! :-) Thank you for inspiring me with your kitchen sink muffins! :-)

What? That is one piece... now that is one large slice of pizza. I love Burros Pizza... it's in AZ. I usually just enjoy making them on my own with a tortilla and loading them up with veggies!
