Abbots- and a winner

My mom and sister came up this past weekend (to go wedding dress shopping). Seriously now, those wedding boutiques are so weird. I mean you go in and meet a lady, and next thing you know you're in a dressing room with her half naked!? Wait no dinner and a drink first??

Dress shopping is a very fun and exciting thing for most girls, I'm happy, but not foaming at the mouth when I see all the white dresses. My sister however... she's pretty darn excited (side note: she got married 6 years ago but would happily do it over every year, to the same guy of course). The woman at the first shop kept looking at my sister when she was telling us about the dresses LOL. Then she'd stop herself and go "wait! you aren't the bride (looking at my sister), you are!(looking at me)" It's all good, she was really nice and I found it totally amusing.

So you may be wondering why there is a huge thing of frozen custard at the top of the screen huh? Well that's Abbotts. You see Abbotts' first store was opened here in Rochester in 1926, it was down at Ontario Beach Park. Most of the locations in the area are only open seasonally, which means summer = custard. I was super excited to see their specialty flavor for the day was Reese's peanut butter cup and Reese's pieces mixed with vanilla custard. It was AMAZING!!! So creamy good! And I have to say my favorite candy is Reese's so I was totally excited. This was our "after dress shopping" activity. Those boutiques aren't too happy when you show up covered in custard drippings :)

Yup most brides-to-be are doing the whole restriction diet/ loose weight thing... this bride-to-be says "hand me the custard please!" and lets dig on in! The three of us shared a large cup, shared calories don't count right?

You're probably wondering if I found a dress... yes and no... but it's going to be a secret either way... for now I'll give you this picture from a company trip I took a few years ago to Vegas... needless to say my dress will NOT look like this... I've blurred my coworkers face as to not reveal HIS identity! You know what they say... what happens in vegas...

Do you like ice cream or custard better? Given the option I'd pick custard for sure!

Ill be honest, Ive never had frozen custard.. everything else that can be frozen though!

You're getting married, congratulations!!!

As for the restriction/diet thing, I remember the waiter at my wedding saying: "Wow, you're the first couple I know who actually ate all their wedding meal!".

Jennifer- haha I know I love that picture! I wish I could ship you some Abbotts, it's so good!

Kitchenlander- thanks! Good for you!! That is totally my plan for the day haha

Sunshinemeg- congrats!

Mags- coming from you that's a huge compliment!! You always have me rolling with your posts :)

Sarah- I'm going to keep eating like I always eat, everything in moderation... I mean that's why I'm the size I am... why look like someone I'm not just for a wedding?? I'll be the size I am now and wearing my glasses on that day! Why look like someone else when I'm happy with being me :D

I don't blame ya for bringin on the custard. I mean, everyone looks beautiful in wedding dresses, right?! That's what they're made for!

I've been wedding dress shopping too, and MAN has it been rough. I don't want to be a cookie-cutter bride, but it's hard to resist the draw of a cheap dress that is flattering, even if it is just like everyone else's. =)

I love PB cups! That would of made me happy after dress shopping!

Hi Steph, Of course, you'll look amazing in any dress you choose!! Your future husband is so lucky...you can cook good, AND look good, as they say!

Don't think I've really had too much frozen custard..the difference would be the eggs, to make it richer, right?

Peace, Stephanie

This was so funny. Frozen custard is great. I like it a lot.

Wedding dress shopping was good for me. I am not a shopper. I just don't get into it. So I was very relieved when I found a dress at the second shop I went to. It was actually the first dress I tried on. :)

I miss Abbott's! Especially the Reese's custard. They put one in Norwalk, CT, when I still lived there. I think I'd choose ice cream, but custard is great too and a nice change!

I'm with your sister, I would totally get married again if only for the dress shopping! And, yes, I would marry my husband! :)

As for the custard / ice cream debate ... can't I have both?! I love them equally, but good custard is hard to find around here. You've got me jonesing for it, Steph!

Aleta- true enough! I left you a message about my dress thoughts ;)

Reeni- There is nothing better than a good PB cup :)

Stephanie- thanks so much! as for your custard question... here is what the abbotts site says: One reason frozen custard is noticeably more creamy and wholesome than standard soft-serve ice cream is the churning process inside the machine. The beaters inside the barrel of our frozen custard machines turn much slower than those in a soft-serve machine. The slower churning prevents excessive air from being mixed into the custard as it freezes.

Jessica- it's funny how that works! The one I 99% am going with was the first one I saw at this shop!

Megan- I didn't realize that Abbotts were all over until recently! I thought they were an up here only thing!

Diva on a Diet- hahah you and her should get together and go try on dresses all over the place :)

Steph, you are awesome! Totally, completely awesome! :-)

Oh goodness, though, I couldn't possibly choose between ice cream and custard... Could I have a wee scoop of each, pretty please? :-) Although, I would be perfectly content with just a scoop of that gorgeous Reeses custard... Who could ask for more? :-)

Oh yes, Custard! So far my favorite flavor is Pineapple pistachio. It is such a joy to have a cup of custard and stroll along the canal on a weekend afternoon in ROC.
I am waiting to see you in a wedding gown.

Dress shopping sounds like so much fun! I would never be able to choose though.. there are just way too many. I hope you find your perfect dress and show it to us after the wedding. You almost scared me with that Vegas pic, I thought that was your dress, but I didn't think you'd put the picture up and didn't think you'd pick something like that..haha

I've never had frozen custard before, but I'm a huge icecream lover.

My parents were totally excited when the Abbott's came to CT in Norwalk. (Bummed that it closed too) We went once a week when I was home and started talking to the owners. Apparently it was the first one out side of the Rochester area.

It was in a bad location though - hard to get to and not much parking.

I love their custard, although I think I would choose ice cream if I could only have one.
